Seven-Day Pilgrim Feast / Season of Rejoicing / High Sabbath on Day 1 Fall Festival Season

The seven-day celebration of dwelling in temporary booths, rejoicing in the ingathering harvest, and anticipating the Messianic Kingdom reign.

1. Full Explanation & Theological Foundation

Five days after the solemnity of Yom Kippur, the assembly transitions into the most joyous season of the year: Sukkot (The Feast of Tabernacles or Booths). For seven days, the children of Israel were commanded to dwell in temporary booths made of palm branches, boughs of leafy trees, and willows of the brook, rejoicing before Yahuah (Leviticus 23:33-43). The sukkah serves as an enduring reminder of our vulnerability and dependence upon Yahuah. When our ancestors wandered forty years in the wilderness, they lived in fragile booths, yet Yahuah provided manna from heaven, water from the rock, and a cloud by day and pillar of fire by night. Our earthly bodies and present worldly status are fragile temporary tents (2 Corinthians 5:1). In Yeshua, “the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us” (John 1:14). Prophetically, Sukkot anticipates the great wedding supper of the Lamb, the Millennial Reign of Messiah when all nations come to Jerusalem to keep the feast (Zechariah 14:16-19), and the ultimate eternal reality where Yahuah tabernacles with mankind forever (Revelation 21:3).

2. A Celebration: How to Observe & Walk in this Day

1. **Building & Decorating the Sukkah:** Construct a temporary outdoor booth using wood, lattice, and branches for the roof (sechach), open enough to see the stars at night. Decorate it with seasonal fruits, pumpkins, cornstalks, and scripture banners. 2. **Dwelling in the Booth:** Eat daily meals, host fellowship, study Scripture, and where weather permits, sleep in the sukkah throughout the seven days. 3. **Observing the Day 1 High Sabbath:** Cease from regular employment on the fifteenth day of the seventh month; hold a holy convocation of thanksgiving and praise. 4. **Rejoicing Before Yahuah (Simchat Sukkot):** Deuteronomy 16:14-15 commands us to rejoice unconditionally in the feast—with children, servants, widows, fatherless, and strangers. Sing, dance, play instruments, and celebrate the Father’s provision. 5. **Hospitality (Ushpizin):** Welcome guests into your sukkah every day, sharing hearty autumn soups, roasted meats, and fresh fruits with brethren and neighbors.

3. Inclusion of the Scriptures

Leviticus 23:39-43 — The Command to Dwell in Booths

“”Also on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the fruit of the land, you shall keep the feast of Yahuah for seven days; on the first day there shall be a sabbath-rest, and on the eighth day a sabbath-rest. And you shall take for yourselves on the first day the fruit of beautiful trees, branches of palm trees, the boughs of leafy trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before Yahuah your Elohim for seven days. You shall keep it as a feast to Yahuah for seven days in the year. It shall be a statute forever in your generations. You shall celebrate it in the seventh month. You shall dwell in booths for seven days. All who are native Israelites shall dwell in booths, that your generations may know that I made the children of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am Yahuah your Elohim.””

Deuteronomy 16:13-15 — You Shall Surely Rejoice

“”You shall observe the Feast of Tabernacles seven days, when you have gathered from your threshing floor and from your winepress. And you shall rejoice in your feast, you and your son and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant and the Levite, the stranger and the fatherless and the widow who are within your gates. Seven days you shall keep a sacred feast to Yahuah your Elohim in the place which Yahuah chooses, because Yahuah your Elohim will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that you surely rejoice.””

Nehemiah 8:14-17 — The Great Joy of Sukkot Restored

“And they found written in the Torah, which Yahuah had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths during the feast of the seventh month… So the people went out and brought them and made themselves booths, each one on the roof of his house, or in their courtyards or the courts of the house of Elohim… for since the days of Joshua the son of Nun until that day the children of Israel had not done so. And there was very great gladness.”

Zechariah 14:16 — All Nations Keeping Sukkot in the Millennium

“And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, Yahuah of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.”

John 1:14 — The Word Tabernacled Among Us

“And the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Revelation 21:3 — The Tabernacle of Elohim with Men

“And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of Elohim is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. Elohim Himself will be with them and be their Elohim.””
