Passover (Pesach) — Sacred Observance Guide
Appointed Time: פסח (Pesach) • Scheduled Observance: Month 1, Day 14 (2027 projected: sunset Monday March 22 to sunset Tuesday March 23; memorial meal Monday evening at twilight)
The foundational memorial of redemption from Egypt by the blood of the unblemished lamb, fulfilled in Yeshua the Messiah our Passover.
The Biblical Meaning & Covenant Purpose
Passover begins in the crucible of Egyptian bondage. Israel cried out under harsh slavery, and Yahuah remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He brought ten plagues upon the false gods of Egypt and commanded each household to slaughter an unblemished yearling lamb on the fourteenth of Aviv at twilight, striking its blood on the doorposts and lintel. When the judgment passed through Egypt, the houses marked with the blood were spared. Crucially, deliverance comes before Sinai. Yahuah did not demand that Israel keep the commandments in order to earn freedom; He redeemed them by grace through faith in the blood, and then led them to Sinai to teach them how free people live. In the New Covenant, Yeshua the Messiah is our Passover (1 Corinthians 5:7). He died on the exact preparation day, shedding His sinless blood so that all who trust in Him are redeemed from the bondage of sin and delivered from the second death.
How to Celebrate & Observe
1. **The Passover Seder / Memorial Meal:** Observed at twilight as the 14th of Aviv begins. Gather in homes or assemblies with unleavened bread (matzah), bitter herbs (maror), roasted lamb/shank, and the fruit of the vine. 2. **Retelling the Deliverance (Maggid):** Walk through Exodus 12 and recount the mighty acts of Yahuah, teaching children how the Father heard our cry and brought us out with an outstretched arm. 3. **The Memorial of Yeshua (The Lord’s Supper):** Yeshua took bread, blessed it, broke it, and said: “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” Likewise the cup after supper: “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you” (Luke 22:19-20). We partake in solemn joy and gratitude. 4. **Singing the Hallel (Psalms 113-118):** Conclude the evening by singing the ancient hymns of praise celebrating Yahuah’s deliverance of the humble from the dust. 5. **Hospitality & Compassion:** Ensure widows, orphans, and single believers are welcomed to the Passover table so that no child of Yahuah observes alone.
The Biblical Scriptures
Exodus 12:11-14 — The Lord’s Passover
“And thus you shall eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. It is Yahuah’s Passover. For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am Yahuah. Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. So this day shall be to you a memorial; and you shall keep it as a feast to Yahuah throughout your generations. You shall keep it as a feast by an everlasting ordinance.”
Leviticus 23:5 — The Appointed Time
“On the fourteenth day of the first month at twilight is Yahuah’s Passover.”
Luke 22:14-20 — Yeshua Institutes the New Covenant Memorial
“When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him. Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of Elohim.” Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of Elohim comes.” And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.””
1 Corinthians 5:7-8 — Messiah Our Passover
“For indeed Messiah, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”
1 Peter 1:18-19 — Redeemed by Precious Blood
“Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Messiah, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”
