Pentecost (Shavuot / Feast of Weeks) — Sacred Observance Guide
Appointed Time: שבועות (Shavuot / Weeks) • Scheduled Observance: The fiftieth day counted from Firstfruits (2027 projected: sunset Saturday May 15 to sunset Sunday May 16)
The fiftieth day after Firstfruits, commemorating the giving of the Torah at Sinai and the outpouring of the Ruach HaKodesh in Acts 2.
The Biblical Meaning & Covenant Purpose
Shavuot (Feast of Weeks) occurs exactly 50 days (seven complete weeks plus one day) after Firstfruits. Historically, it marks the arrival of Israel at Mount Sinai in the third month, where Yahuah spoke the Ten Commandments and entered into a marriage covenant with His redeemed people (Exodus 19-20). In Acts 2, when the day of Shavuot had fully come, Yeshua poured out the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) upon the disciples gathered in Jerusalem with the sound of a rushing wind and tongues of fire. This was not the abolishing of the Torah, but its ultimate New Covenant fulfillment: Yahuah writing His Torah upon human hearts and minds, empowering believers from all nations to walk in loving obedience (Jeremiah 31:33, Ezekiel 36:26-27). Two leavened loaves were waved before Yahuah, symbolizing Jew and Gentile reconciled into one body through Messiah.
How to Celebrate & Observe
1. **High Sabbath Observance:** Cease from all customary employment and commercial transactions; assemble for a holy convocation. 2. **Reading the Book of Ruth:** Reflect upon the story of Ruth—her loyalty to Naomi, her inclusion among the covenant people of Israel, and her redemption by Boaz the kinsman-redeemer during the wheat harvest. 3. **Feast of Wheat Harvest & Summer Bounty:** Enjoy shared festival meals featuring fresh baked breads, dairy foods (symbolizing the milk and honey of Torah), fruits, and fellowship. 4. **All-Night or Extended Study of the Word:** Spend dedicated time reading Exodus 19-20 and Acts 1-2, meditating on the holiness of the Father’s commandments and the power of the Spirit. 5. **Benevolence to the Poor & Stranger:** Leviticus 23:22 commands that during Shavuot harvest, corners of the field must be left for the poor and stranger. Channel intentional benevolence to needy families in the local community.
The Biblical Scriptures
Leviticus 23:15-17, 21-22 — The Feast of Weeks Appointed
“And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering: seven Sabbaths shall be completed. Count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall offer a new grain offering to Yahuah. You shall bring from your dwellings two wave loaves of two-tenths of an ephah. They shall be of fine flour; they shall be baked with leaven. They are the firstfruits to Yahuah… And you shall proclaim on the same day that it is a holy convocation to you. You shall do no customary work on it. It shall be a statute forever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.”
Exodus 19:3-6 — A Kingdom of Priests at Sinai
“And Moses went up to Elohim, and Yahuah called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’””
Acts 2:1-4 — The Outpouring of the Ruach HaKodesh
“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Ruach HaKodesh and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
Jeremiah 31:33 — Torah Written on the Heart
“But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says Yahuah: I will put My Torah in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.”
